Sydney Davis Selected as YLD Star of the Quarter
Sydney Davis became involved with the NCBA Young Lawyers Division to collaborate, grow and learn as a young attorney, and partner with colleagues across various practice areas and groups across the state. The YLD offers unlimited opportunities for pro bono, CLE, community service, social events, leadership, and networking, which Sydney believes all young attorneys should tap into as they begin to create their networks and brand and find their purpose in practicing law.
Over the last quarter, Sydney focused on fulfilling the liaison positions for 40 community groups (which includes Sections, Divisions, select Committees, and interest groups), so that each community group has a YLD liaison who acts as the intermediatory between the YLD and the community group to ensure both entities are supporting each other and furthering the goals of each entity. The goal is to connect YLD, its Committees (Civic Engagement, Disaster Legal Services, etc.), and its membership to the community group, and vice versa, to explore opportunities for collaboration, community service, cross-selling, network building, and professional development.
Get involved. Don’t be shy about reaching out. The YLD offers 16 committees, so there is something for everyone, from wellness to law student outreach to CLE to first generation attorneys. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can help in any way.
The partnership between the YLD and NC Disaster Legal Services (a committee of YLD), so that North Carolinians in the Western part of the state impacted by Tropical Storm Helene have access to talented, volunteer attorneys from across the state, and out-of-state thanks to North Carolina State Bar’s temporary rule amendment, to address their needs, from FEMA Appeals to Insurance Claims Disputes. At present, this Committee is still recruiting subject matter expert volunteers to join weekly virtual “Office Hours” via Zoom, on Fridays beginning in December, to help answer questions from attorneys who have accepted a pro bono client referral from the DLS program.
