Appellate Practice Section Scholarship
The Appellate Practice Section is making a limited number of scholarships available to North Carolina appellate law clerks. This scholarship is open to North Carolina-based law clerks at the Supreme Court of North Carolina, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Our mission statement provides that the Section is “Dedicated to Enhancing the Quality of Appellate Advocacy throughout North Carolina.” A significant portion of our Section’s membership were once law clerks, so your commitment to clerking suggests a future in our profession.
The Appellate Practice Section Scholarship will cover:
- The cost of the eligible applicant’s NCBA basic membership dues for the 2024-2025 Bar Year (i.e., July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025), including the concurrent complimentary year’s membership in the Appellate Practice Section.
- Additionally, if you elect to attend the event, the Scholarship will also cover the tuition registration cost to the Appellate Practice Section’s Annual CLE Program, scheduled for Friday, March 8, 2024, at the NC Bar Center (8000 Weston Parkway) in Cary.
To apply for the Appellate Practice Section Scholarship, please complete the below form and provide a Personal Statement, explaining:
- the origins of your interest in the study of law and, in particular, the scope of your interest in appellate advocacy; and
- why quality appellate advocacy is vitally important to the judicial system.
Please know we have designed this evaluation process to be anonymous. Therefore, while you can certainly describe in detail the value of your clerkship experiences and its professional impact upon you, we respectfully request that you please not refer to your honorable Judge or Justice by name anywhere in the application, including both the form below and Personal Statement. Failure to observe this restriction this will result in the disqualification of an application.
Please note that a Scholarship must be used for the year awarded and is not guaranteed, as such is based on available funding.
