Last week’s 30th Annual Mecklenburg County Bar and the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation Law & Society Luncheon was cause for celebration for two distinguished members of the North Carolina Bar Association.

Past President John R. Wester and Jonathan E. Buchan Jr., former member of the NCBA Board of Governors and the North Carolina Bar Foundation Board of Directors, received awards.

Buchan, who practices with Essex Richards, received the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation’s Ayscue Professionalism Award. The award is named in honor of its first recipient, E. Osborne Ayscue Jr., who is also a past president of the NCBA/NCBF.

George V. Hanna III, past president of the Mecklenburg County Bar & Foundation, presented the Ayscue Professionalism Award. Hanna is also a former member of the NCBA Board of Governors and NCBF Board of Directors.

Wester, who practices with Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, received the N.C. State Bar’s John B. McMillian Distinguished Service Award. G. Gray Wilson, immediate past president of the State Bar and a past president of the NCBA/NCBF, presented the award.

The event included welcoming remarks from Chris Lam, president of the Mecklenburg County Bar, and Erin Illman, chair of the MCB Law & Society Committee. An overview of the Mecklenburg Bar Foundation was provided by its president, Lori Keeton.
