Legal Feeding Frenzy Results In!

The champions of the 2020 N.C. Legal Feeding Frenzy were recognized on Thursday, April 23. In light of the current COVID-19 restrictions, N.C. Attorney General Josh Stein, honorary chair and a member of the NCBA, announced the awards live via Facebook.

Legal Feeding Frenzy is a collaborative effort of the North Carolina Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, the North Carolina Bar Foundation Endowment, Feeding The Carolinas and the N.C. Attorney General.

This year’s Feeding Frenzy raised $151,083, which equates into 604,332 pounds of food. A total of 60 teams participated.

This year’s winners are:

  • Attorney General’s Cup: The Attorney General’s Cup is awarded to the firm/organization that raises the most pounds per person. Mason Law Office of Asheboro captured the AG’s Cup by raising 9,995 pounds of food per person.
  • Large Firm Division (over 100 employees) – Moore & Van Allen, Charlotte
  • Medium Firm Division (51-100 employees) – Ellis & Winters (Raleigh/Greensboro)
  • Small Firm Division (11-50 employees) – Gardner Skelton (Charlotte)

  • Corporate/In-House Division – Atrium Health (Charlotte)

For the Wake Forest University School of Law this was the seventh year in a row it has captured the Law School Division, and Moore & Van Allen claimed the Large Firm Division for the seventh time overall. Fisher Law is a repeat champion in the Solo Practitioner Division, and a three-time winner of the Attorney General’s Cup. Gardner Skelton is also a repeat winner by claiming the Small Firm Division for the third year in a row.

Legal Feeding Frenzy also introduced the Altruist Award this year to recognize a “volunteer, participant, and/or partner who has given selflessly and made a significant impact on the Legal Feeding Frenzy. The first Altruist Award was presented to Executive Director Mike Darrow of Feeding the Carolinas.

Charlotte attorney Erin Ball of Gardner Skelton and Durham attorney Michele Livingstone of Kennon Craver served as co-chairs of this year’s Legal Feeding Frenzy, and they too demonstrated an exemplary effort during these trying and unforeseen circumstances. Their final report on the Feeding Frenzy is accessible here on the YLD blog and includes a link to a special thank you message from Darrow and a listing of all of the participants.
