New Chairs Leading NCBA Divisions

With the beginning of the new bar year, the North Carolina Bar Association announces new leadership of the Young Lawyers Division, the Senior Lawyers Division and the Paralegal Division.

Young Lawyers Division
Kristen M. Kirby is a partner with McGuireWoods in Raleigh, where her practice focuses on public finance transactions. In 2020-21 she is serving as chair of the Young Lawyers Division, where she has held numerous leadership positions throughout her career.

Kirby is a graduate of Duke University (2005), and in 2009 received an MBA with distinction from Wake Forest University and the juris doctor, cum laude, from Wake Forest University School of Law.

 

Senior Lawyers Division
Rhoda B. Billings of Lewisville is serving as chair of the Senior Lawyers Division in 2020-21. She is a former chief justice of the N.C. Supreme Court and past president of the NCBA and NCBF.

Billings is a graduate of Berea College and Wake Forest University School of Law (1966), where she graduated first in her class and served for many years on the faculty. Billings has received the highest honors presented by Wake Forest University (Medallion of Merit) and the NCBA (John J. Parker Award).

 

Paralegal Division
Stephanie Durham-Rivera of Raleigh is serving as chair of the Paralegal Division in 2020-21. She is a workers’ compensation paralegal with McAngus Goudelock & Courie, where she has worked since 2011.

Durham-Rivera previously served as a litigation paralegal with Olive & Olive and as a legal assistant with Patterson Dilthey. She is a graduate of Howard University (2003), where she earned the bachelor of arts in communications.
