Volunteer Event Launches 2022 Legal Feeding Frenzy
Volunteers rolled up their sleeves on Friday, February 25, during the official kickoff of the 2022 Legal Feeding Frenzy. The Feeding Frenzy is a joint program conducted by the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association and the Feeding the Carolinas Food Banks, supported by a grant from the North Carolina Bar Foundation Endowment.
This year’s Feeding Frenzy is scheduled March 1-31.

Volunteers included, from left, Alexandra Southerland, Trey Ellis, YLD Chair Will Quick and Anna-Jamieson-Beck.
The kickoff event was held at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina in Raleigh. Attorney General Josh Stein, who serves as honorary chair of the Feeding Frenzy, participated in the kickoff event and provided words of encouragement for the volunteers. He will also recognize this year’s winners, including the overall champion who receives the Attorney General’s Cup, during the awards ceremony in April.
But it’s way too early to be talking about awards! The hard work of raising foods and funds has begun in earnest, and there is still plenty of time to organize a team and join in on the fun and community service.
Everything you need to know is accessible through this page on the NCBA website devoted to the 2022 Legal Feeding Frenzy. But if you have questions, feel free to email Cheyenne Merrigan.
Executive Director Mike Darrow of Feeding the Carolinas also participated in the kickoff event. He recalled the manner in which Feeding Frenzy volunteers and participants came through two years ago when the pandemic was just beginning, and added his appreciation for the ongoing effort to provide food and funds to combat hunger in North Carolina.
“The Legal Feeding Frenzy and the work of the legal profession in North Carolina are very important,” said Executive Director Mike Darrow of Feeding the Carolinas. “When the pandemic broke in 2020, the Legal Feeding Frenzy was happening then, and they were phenomenal. Their response provided a beacon of hope, and we are eternally grateful for the support of the attorney general and the legal profession.”
Meredith Brewer and Spencer Fritts of the NCBA Young Lawyers Division are serving as co-chairs for the 2022 Legal Feeding Frenzy.
