(Jim) Dorsett III of Smith Anderson in Raleigh recently received the Judge David Daniel Award for Excellence in the Legal Community from the Eastern District of North Carolina (EDNC) chapter of the Federal Bar Association. The award, which annually honors an attorney who has shown a commitment to the legal profession, the EDNC, their clients and their community, was presented on February 24 at the annual EDNC Federal Bar Association CLE at Campbell Law School.

Hunt Jr. was inducted into the charter class of the Hunt High School Athletics Hall of Fame on April 29. The school was named in his honor prior to opening in 1978 and is located near the Rock Ridge community where the state’s only four-term governor grew up and attended high school. A graduate of N.C. State University and UNC School of Law, Hunt served as governor of North Carolina from 1977-1985 and 1993-2001, and retired from what is now known as Womble Bond Dickinson at the end of 2012.

Joseph of Morningstar Law Group in Raleigh was recently elected to the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) Foundation Board of Directors. The IADC is an invitation-only global legal organization for attorneys who represent corporate and insurance interests, and the mission of the IADC Foundation is to support the rule of law and access for all to a fair and just legal system through education and research, strategic partnerships, and relevant projects.

Mike, a white man with brown hair, wears a white shirt, blue tie, and black jacket.Former Congressman Mike McIntyre of Ward and Smith in Raleigh has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. McIntyre, who is a graduate of UNC (1978) and UNC School of Law (1981), received an honorary Doctor of Laws during the spring commencement ceremony on May 14 in recognition of his “exemplary leadership and public service.” McIntyre served in the U.S. House of Representatives for North Carolina’s 7th District from 1997 to 2015.

Ashley, a white woman with blond hair, wears a blue blouse and gold necklace.Ashley S. Rusher of Blanco Tackabery in Winston-Salem has been named a fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy. She was inducted into the 34th class of the college in March at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C., becoming one of only 17 North Carolina attorneys to receive this honor. Rusher currently serves on the NCBA Board of Governors and the NCBF Board of Directors and served in 2016-17 as chair of the NCBA Bankruptcy Section.

(Griff) Shuler of Daggett Shuler in Winston-Salem and his wife, Julie Shuler, have been recognized by King University of Bristol, Tenn., as recipients of the Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award. Members of the Class of 1991, the Shulers met and began dating at what was then King College before pursuing degrees in pharmacy (Julie, Samford) and law (Griff, Wake Forest). They continued to date long-distance, got married in 1994, and have lived in Winston-Salem ever since.
