Judge John Arrowood of the N.C. Court of Appeals has been honored by the Catawba College Alumni Association as a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award. Arrowood is a 1979 magna cum laude graduate of Catawba and was elected to an eight-year term on the Court of Appeals in 2018.
Brian O. Beverly of Young Moore and Henderson in Raleigh has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Beverly is a past president of the N.C. Association of Defense Attorneys, Capital City Lawyers Association and Wake County Bar Association, and former member of the NCBA/NCBF Board of Governors/Directors.
Walter E. Brock Jr. of Young Moore and Henderson in Raleigh has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Coverage Counsel, an association of attorneys who represent the interests of insurers and policyholders in disputes arising out of insurance contracts. Brock is a past president of the Wake County Bar Association and Tenth Judicial District Bar.
Charlotte Pro Bono Triage is the recipient of the 2020 Corporate Pro Bono Award from the Pro Bono Institute. Charlotte Triage, created by Moore & Van Allen and McGuireWoods, is a partnership between Charlotte-based corporate legal departments and law firms providing support to Legal Aid of North Carolina-Charlotte and the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy. Charlotte Triage received the NCBA’s 2020 Outstanding Collaborative Pro Bono Service Award.
John Coble of Marshall, William & Gorham in Wilmington has been appointed to the Cape Fear Museum Associates Board of Directors. Coble is a past president of the Fifth Judicial District Bar.
Jeff Kelly of Shanahan Law Group in Raleigh has been named to the 2020 Fastcase 50, which annually honors “innovators, techies, visionaries and leaders” in the legal profession. Kelly chairs the NCBA’s Future of Law Committee.
Dean J. Rich Leonard of Campbell Law School has been awarded the designation of a Fulbright Specialist Scholar for a three-year period. Leonard has served as dean of the law school since 2013 and previously served as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of N.C.
Catherine Mitchell of Fox Rothschild in Charlotte has been appointed to the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics Board of Trustees. The 27-seat board is comprised of appointees selected by the UNC Board of Governors in conjunction with the N.C. General Assembly.
Perry Safran of Safran Law Offices in Raleigh has been appointed to a three-year term on the North Carolina State University Board of Trustees. Safran previously served on the Raleigh City Council and is a former president of the NCSU Alumni Association.
Robin J. Stinson of Bell, Davis & Pitt in Winston-Salem is now a certified arbitrator through the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Stinson is a past chair of the NCBA Family Law Section and former member of the NCBA/NCBF Board of Governors/Directors.
