North Carolina Lawyer magazine, the flagship publication and a member benefit of the North Carolina Bar Association, has been recognized for the second year in a row as best in class among the nation’s largest bar organizations.

The Luminary Award for Excellence in Regular Publications was presented to the NCBA Communications Department last week in St. Louis at the annual workshop of the Communications Section of the National Association of Bar Executives.

Graphic Designer Lindsey Crook and Managing Editor Amber Nimocks accepted the award, which was presented in the category of Large Bars with memberships of 15,000 or more.

“This is very exciting news for both the staff and membership of the North Carolina Bar Association,” said Russell Rawlings, director of external affairs and communications. “Knowing as we do of the fine work that other state and metropolitan bars are producing, it is especially gratifying for our bar association to receive this honor two years in a row.”

In addition to staff members, the magazine receives contributions from several members, including the president of the NCBA and the chair of the Young Lawyers Division. Yet another member, Laura Graham of the Wake Forest University School of Law, is the author of the popular “Writing That Works” series.

Elizabeth Hodges serves as advertising coordinator and Glennon Toone is the magazine’s contributing photographer.

“It is most appropriate that Lindsey and Amber, our assistant directors of communications, accepted this award,” Rawlings added. “The two years in which they have worked together to bring each issue of the magazine to fruition are the two years for which it has been recognized, and that is not just a coincidence.

“A word of thanks should also be extended to our members, for it is their stories and their service to the public and the profession that make all of this possible. Any recognition that our magazine receives is a reflection on their contributions to society, whether it is provided directly through their individual efforts or collectively through their contributions to the North Carolina Bar Foundation.”
