Zoning, Planning and Land Use Section Award of Excellence

Establishment of Award, Purpose and Criteria: The Award of Excellence was created to recognize “superstars” of the Zoning, Planning and Land Use Section who have shown outstanding work and commitment to land use matters. Nominees should have shown: (1) the highest ethical standards; (2) professional and outstanding work regarding land use matters, such as work and advocacy in court cases, the development of local land use ordinances, and the development of legislation; (3) a long-term commitment to significant land use matters and issues; (4) a true commitment of service to clients; (5) respect for and love of the law; (6) that he or she is held in the highest regard by the bar, the planning community, and local government; (7) dedication to the community or the bar with a track record of pro bono or volunteer service; and (8) how to effectively balance both outstanding professional performance and other life endeavors.

Additional Requirements: The recipient of the Award must be a member of the Zoning, Planning and Land Use Section.

Nominations Guidelines

Complete the form below to nominate an individual. Space is provided to describe the nominee’s practice and how the nominee meets the criteria of the award. Please feel free to also upload documents detailing the nominee’s practice and contributions, as well as letters of support related to the nominee’s law practice and public service from attorneys and lay persons who know the nominee well (extensive information in this area is encouraged).

Complete the nomination application below with the appropriate documentation no later than March 31, 2024. The recipient will be awarded at the Section Annual Meeting on April 19, 2024 at the Bar Center.
