Administrative Law

Serves the interests of lawyers who represent and practice before state and local regulatory boards and commissions, the Office of Administrative Hearings and occupational licensing boards.

Antitrust & Complex Business Disputes Law

Serves lawyers who practice in the areas of antitrust and trade regulation as well as complex business litigation, including class actions and business torts.

Appellate Practice

Provides networking and educational opportunities in appellate practice, and promotes excellence in North Carolina’s appellate courts.

Bankruptcy

Promotes networking and education for practitioners in all areas of bankruptcy practice, both business and consumer areas, and among members who practice in the three federal bankruptcy districts.

Business Law

Provides information, practice tools and member activities related to business law practice.

Constitutional Rights & Responsibilities

Committed to preserving and protecting rights guaranteed by the N.C. and U.S. constitutions, and educating its members, the practice and the public about these important documents.

Construction Law

Concerned with issues including public and private contracting, development, insurance and claims, mechanics’ liens and bonds, construction defects, and OSHA compliance and subcontracting.

Corporate Counsel

Limits its members to those employed full-time or part-time exclusively for a corporation; business, educational, or nonprofit association; partnership; or governmental entity, and is not employed by or associated with a private, for-profit law firm.

Criminal Justice

Represents the interests of all lawyers who participate in the criminal justice system, whether defense attorneys, prosecutors or members of the judiciary.

Dispute Resolution

Addresses issues that are relevant to both mediation and arbitration, and acts as a resource for practicing mediators, arbitrators and attorneys who utilize alternative dispute resolution.

Education Law

Promotes education of and networking among attorneys serving schools K-12 and colleges, administrators, employees, faculty and students.

Elder & Special Needs Law

Brings together members of the NCBA who have a special interest in elder law practice and focuses on issues related to the state’s elderly population, including Medicare and Medicaid.

Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Law

Members represent governmental, nonprofit and private environmental law practitioners, providing a forum for collegial interaction among N.C. environmental lawyers from all three sectors.

Estate Planning & Fiduciary Law

Brings together attorneys engaging in estate planning and trust and estate administration, promoting public awareness of estate planning and administration issues and the role of attorneys in these fields.

Family Law

Promotes improvements in family law practice and jurisprudence by legislative changes, legal education, practice guides, pro bono legal services and mentoring programs.

Government & Public Sector

Encourages the participation of government and public sector lawyers in the NCBA and works to develop programs and services that will be of value to government attorneys.

Health Law

Addresses legal issues related to health care including medical malpractice, health care provider regulation and health insurance, and provides an excellent opportunity to network with fellow health care attorneys.

Insurance Law

Brings together members who have a primary interest to inform all lawyers interested in the field of insurance law of the current and significant developments in that area.

Intellectual Property Law

Examines copyright, patent and trademark law issues, providing information to its members about a vast array of issues related to international property law.

International Practice

Serves as an educational, legislative and networking resource for practitioners engaged in cross-border issues and international affairs and organizes the NCBA’s international attorney exchange program.

Juvenile Justice & Children’s Rights

Provides networking for attorneys and advocacy organizations interested in protecting the rights of juveniles in all areas of the law affecting children including domestic, juvenile court and education.

Labor & Employment Law

Serves as a resource for lawyers involved in a broad spectrum of employment law representation and provides input on legislative and ethical matters affecting employers, employees and counsel.

Litigation

Includes those who have a substantial portion of their practice in civil litigation.

Military & Veterans Law

Brings together NCBA members and affiliates who have a special interest in military law or veteran-focused legal services.

Privacy & Data Security

Serves lawyers who practice in the areas of privacy and data security law. The Section is concerned primarily with bringing together members with an interest in privacy and data security law practice, and furthering the development of the law in these fields.

Real Property

Deals with numerous issues affecting real property practice in North Carolina, including state and federal proposed legislation and regulations, pro bono projects, CLE programs, and NCBA copyrighted real property forms.

Small Firm & Technology

Offers resources for small firms, including solo attorneys, and all attorneys interested in starting and running a law practice.

Sports & Entertainment Law

Includes lawyers who represent sports and entertainment clients; lawyers who serve as counsel to organizations engaged in the multi-billion dollar sports and entertainment industry; and many lawyers who wish to broaden their practices to include the sports and entertainment area.

Tax

Offers a wide variety of programs on tax issues and engages in tax policy, tax pro bono projects and tax legislative projects.

Workers’ Compensation

Represents the interests of both plaintiff and defense attorneys, and appoints a representative to meet periodically with the Industrial Commission to review issues of interest to member attorneys.

Zoning, Planning & Land Use

Includes attorneys and paralegals in private and local governmental practice who routinely handle matters related to land use, zoning, zoning litigation and environmental regulations affecting the development of land.
